dear microsoft and treyarch…
I received a $20 gift card to Best Buy for Christmas. So I went to Best Buy to figure out what I might want. After walking around and weighing out my options, I decided to get the new Call of Duty: World at War. I have heard mixed reviews of the game, but most were negative. I didn’t really care because most of what people complained about were things only a true “gamer” would notice. All I know is that you shoot to kill.
I had heard that you could play co-operatively online. This is something that CoD 4 (which I already have) did not offer. I had played Halo 3 at the Blue House like this. We had 4 of us total playing online against the world and it was so much fun. Being able to have multiple people play would be nice, at least so that Shauna can play with me here-and-there. Before I go further on this I will get positive.
I started playing the game last night, and I really enjoyed it. The game takes place in WW2 (or thereabout) and does really well with keeping the weapons limited to that era. This took some getting used to since CoD 4 takes place in modern day, with modern weapons and such. After getting used to the completely different weapons and maps, I found myself really getting into it. So I figured my $10 investment wasn’t wasted.
All was good until I asked Shauna if she wanted to play. Within minuted the shit hit the fan. One: the only co-op you can do online is playing with other people while playing the actual storyboard of the game. Two: to play “split-screen” online like Halo 3 offers, you have to have two $50/year memberships to xbox live. TWO!!! At least that is all I can figure because without another there was no other option. That makes playing this game cost an extra fifty bucks! Bullshit.
Whatever, I have the game now, maybe it will grow on me, maybe I will decide to pay for Shauna to have an account. I don’t know. All I do know is…I’m pissed. I don’t understand why Halo can offer it, but nothing else does! Why the hell can’t someone else offer this. Really, I wouldn’t care to buy Halo 3, but no one will mark it down or have a sale with it included, and it costs $60.
Note: I knew when I bought my xbox that I would have to pay for an online account. But my only real experience with it beforehand was playing halo 3 where 4 of us played under 1 account. There should be a notation on the package stating the whether two accounts are required. Ugh. I should have researched it I suppose. Although that seems crazy to have to research how two people can play a damn game.
