bad vibes [in greeneville, tn]

After trying a couple of times through the week to find time to head to Greeneville, TN to ride their new skatepark, we finally made our way Sunday morning.

First thing we notice is the park is pretty small. We kinda had an idea just from the fact that it was in podunk Greeneville, though. But…we had already driven the 60 miles, so what the hell! It was really a lot of fun, mostly because it was just a bunch of small jib-like obstacles. Although there was a nice size ledge/rail thing down about 10 stairs that Stephen and myself hit…

Anyway after riding for maybe an hour (if that) some Billy Badass comes storming into the park, yelling at us to leave NOW and that bikes aren’t allowed. We were about 15 feet or so from the gate and from the second he walked in he acted like we had commited murder! Once he got close-enough and I realized he wasn’t joking, we told him we were from Knoxville and had no idea. He almost immediately turned into Mr. Nice Guy. Not the case with his bleach-blonde Avril Lavigne wife! After he he realized we weren’t from Greeneville and was walking out with us, she was trying to close the gate and keep us trapped. She said, “What are you doing?! The cops are on their way, they need to get banned!” What a bitch! At this point he had to convince her to let us out of the fenced in part of the skatepark! Even after “letting” us leave she continued babbling about how they didn’t work that hard for 3 years to have us come and ruin their park! Keep in mind, that we just recently had our park come to fruition after like 6 years! That didn’t matter to her.

One of her rants was about how they used lower p.s.i. concrete, which won’t hold up to bikes as well (or anything else for that matter). I understand where she is coming from, but Jesus, telling me 50 times doesn’t make it any different. Basically this is the type of woman who regardless of winning or losing, is going to run her mouth!

No big deal, in all honesty, the park was small, it had zero flow and was too close to Kingsport to have considered going back, regardless of whether we were kicked out or not.

But the more I think about the situation, the guy, who apparently owned the local skate-shop, said that one of the guys at the park called him. Ok. So why couldn’t one of those guys just been like, “hey dude, this park doesn’t allow bikes,” and we would have left. Again, not the case here. They had the cops show up! They just waived, because at this point we were outside of the park itself. But that means a) the skaters were just wanting to watch us get banned or b) they were scared to say anything. Something tells me that it wasn’t the latter. I don’t get it, like 3 or 4 years ago, it was nothing to go and have a session with skaters and bikers together. Now, skaters have to hate bikers. It is apparently the trend now. Damn robots! (This obviously doesn’t stand true for all, but it is easily true for like 90%).

Back to the brighter side. Stephen snapped a few picks of me during the short time we were there.
