brakes?

So I got a new pair of kicks. I got some Beloe Miguel’s. So far they feel a bit narrow, but I think they will stretch out.

When I ordered my shoes, I also picked up a new brake lever and cable to put some stoppers on my bike. I haven’t had brakes in quite some time now, and truthfully, I think I ride better without them… Now I don’t really feel at any advantage, or disadvantage for that matter, riding without them other than it just feels better. But the main and just about the only reason for me to put them back on is, the skatepark. Since I have taken my brakes off, I don’t take as many lines as before. I just hate knowing that I am gonna fly out into the middle (kinda like the rest of the riders/skaters) and know that I can’t stop. So to fix this I just didn’t take those lines.

Well, now I’m missing some of those lines and other than on Sundays, I can’t ever hit them. Here is where the brakes come in.

I started to put my brake lever on and instantly started doubting my decision to put brakes back on, I know it sounds crazy, but I did! I really, really like the feel of being brakeless. So, I continued to put the rest of the parts on, doubting it the whole time. I just keep telling myself, “ride them for a week or two, then take them off again.” I may or may not make it that long.

My biggest complaint is that I tend to rest a finger on the brake lever. This is a habit that took a while to break, and when I finally did, man did it feel good. I want to try to stay conscious about how I use my brake finger and make sure to not lest it rest on the lever. The longer I keep my finger off, the longer my brakes stay on. BUT…as soon as I start to do it again, they are coming off for a while.
