jackpot!
Holy crap! I freakin’ hit the jackpot today at the Dutch Valley Antique Mall!
I had the idea to go this morning when I got rained out of the skatepark.
Shauna, my mom, my dad and myself piled into my car and off we went.
Everytime I have been to this place, I hardly ever find anything really cool. This time was totally different. When I first walked in I spotted a cool “Master Photographer” medium format camera. These look really cool, cause they are all plastic and cheap looking but take some of the most interesting and “stylistic” shots. This is mostly because they use a cheap plastic lens and the body doesn’t really seal well. This camera was in a locked case so I just figured I would have someone let me see it after I had made my rounds.
The second cool thing, were two Argus rangefinder cameras (after reading the link I am glad I didn’t get them they wanted 50 bucks!). Both cameras came with their leather cases and one even came with the original box, flash (no bulbs) and some other pieces. Both of these cameras weighed a ton, but were super cool.
Then, I hit the jackpot!
As I neared the end of one of the junk filled aisles, I spotted the Kodak sitting on top of a case. This camera is pristine! It looks like it is new, fresh out of the store and never been used. Except there was proof that it had been used, a full roll of film! It was used of course, but still, I am gonna get the negatives developed and see what’s on them.
Then after I picked my jaw up from the floor, I see the Brownie Hawkeye box sitting next to the Kodak. My dad is already ahead of me here and opened the box. Holy shit, it has everything in it! EVEN FLASH BULBS! How cool?!
Now as if it can’t get any better. I bought an instaFlash camera just like the Kodak at the antique mall a few months back, but it didn’t come with the film spools. These are required to use the cameras because 620 film is no longer made, but 120 film can be “transfered” over to the 620 spools. But guess what….both of these cameras came with the spools! So now I can actually attempt to use my cool old cameras!
I am excited!
Oh, I definitely have to say THANK YOU to Dad for buying one of the cameras for me. I didn’t want to splurge on both cameras and I couldn’t decide. So he bought one of them for me!
And last but definitely not least….HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY, MOM!
