three dimensional

My friend Matt, at Knoxville Magazine, likes to play with text. Some of the stuff I see him do, simply amazes me! From elegant to grungy, from intricate to simple (simple is sometimes harder than anything else). Basically, he works text like Devon Hutchins works a camera! Ultra badass!

Anyway, to get on with my point, Matt does pretty well with 3-D effects on text. Take last month’s Knoxville Magazine cover.

Although this is simple and clean, it took a little more work than you would think…

You may not be able to see it here, but he added some shadow under the guys foot, added a touch of perspective and just a slight drop shadow for extra depth.

I started to play with the last set of photos I posted, but decided not to finish. Then tonight I had the urge to play with photoshop and 3-D text.

I used bmx photos cause I thought it looked cool. It is harder to not do too much, than it is to just say it looks good and leave it alone. I think its fun and is something I would like to do with my photos from now on. (Maybe that would help motivate me to take more photos)
